Challenges
Working with big companies – in this case, one of the largest European providers of telecommunications services – comes with a set of unique challenges. This particular project necessitated supporting Nortal's self-care portal, which is used by a large number of people, without interrupting service. Failure simply was not an option. - Integration with the existing team without any negative impact on the project or the roadmap thereof
- Instantaneous commencement of work on the system which contains numerous subsystems, integrations, work patterns and rules, as well as many active users
Goals
The goal of the project was to support and develop new features for the self-care PrePaid and PostPaid systems of a major European telecommunications service provider, as well as its branches across different countries.- Implement credit card integration
- Handle the redesigns of the system's components
- Implement auto-login features
- Prepare an API for the mobile app
Created Value
To achieve the best results possible and become a valuable long-term partner, Toughlex first needed to ensure that smooth channels of communication were set up with Nortal and the other parties involved in supporting the project. Toughlex was and remains involved in the entire process of project development, from planning to shipping. Despite the changing requirements and workflow, Toughlex managed to adapt and meet the client's needs.AgileThe telecommunication business is highly competitive and requires constant adaptation. For this reason, Nortal wanted to begin implementing the agile methodology, and Toughlex was able to help with the transition.
IntegrationsAs the system relies on more than 12 SOAP and REST-based integrations and serves tens of thousands of users, the team was required to provide continuous support and move quickly to remove any and all interruptions, thereby ensuring the highest possible uptime.
Multiple RedesignsToughlex was a part of multiple, major redesigns with a plethora of new features and performance requirements.
Mobile app APIToughlex has developed and continues to maintain a REST-based API for the mobile app, ensuring code reusability between different clients and best design practices.
OutcomeWith thousands of lines of new code and many successful releases delivered, the Nortal-Toughlex partnership has been a resounding success. Within a year and a half, the team grew more than twofold. Both parties expect to enjoy continued collaboration and mutual advancement through the exchange of best practices for years to come.
Technologies
The different branches of Nortal's business use different technology stacks. Together with the Nortal team, Toughlex successfully moved from .NET to .NET Core as its back-end server, supporting a multitude of front-end technologies, such as AngularJs, KnockoutJs, and Razor. We successfully integrated Google Analytics and set up a logging server with Elasticsearch and Kibana for centralized real-time statistics and logging.
Data storage was implemented through MS SQL Server, and Redis was chosen as the centralized caching store to ensure consistency in a distributed system.
